Lviv. High Castle

Lviv was founded by Prince Danylo (later King of Ruthenia) in the middle of the XIII century (the first mention goes back to 1256). Around 1272, the city became the capital of the Kingdom of Ruthenia (Galicia-Volyn principality). During the reign of his son Lev Danilovich, the capital of the state was moved to Lviv. The residence of the princes was the newly built Low Castle, so named in contrast to the High Castle, which stood on the Castle Hill (Vysoky Zamok). To date, none of the Lviv castles survived – they were built in the 1270s, and they also disappeared almost simultaneously – the Austrian authorities dismantled them in the 19th century.  But even to these days and in any weather you can meet many citizens or guests of Lviv on the observation deck of the Castle Hill, which offers a wide panorama of the city.  

Lviv. Високий Замок

Львів заснував князь (пізніше король Руси) Данило у середині XIII століття (перша згадка від 1256 року). Близько 1272 року місто стало столицею Королівства Русі (Галицько-Волинського князівства). Під час правління його сина Лева Даниловича до Львова перенесли столицю держави. Резиденцією князів став новозбудований Низький замок  названий так на противагу Високому, який стояв на Замковій горі. До нашого часу жоден із львівських замків не достояв – їх збудували у 1270-ті роки, і зникли вони теж майже одночасно –австрійська влада їх розібрала у ХІХ столітті. Але і до сьогоднiшніх днів за будь-якої погоди можна зустріти безліч містян чи гостей Львова на оглядовому майданчику Замкової гори, звідки відкривається панорама міста.
