Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre

Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater is located in the historic center of the city on Svobody Avenue. It is named after the famous Ukrainian opera singer Solomiya Krushelnytska.

The construction of the theater began in June 1897 under the project of architect Zygmunt Gorgolewski, the author of many monumental buildings in Poland and Germany.  The grand opening of the theater was on October 4, 1900, and was attended by writer Henryk Sienkiewicz, composer Ignacy Jan Paderevsky, and delegations from various European cities.

The theater became one of the most prominent buildings in Lviv, built at the end of the era, which in the history of architecture is characterized as "historicism", or "eclecticism". Stylistically, the building is made in the forms of Neo-Renaissance and Neo-Baroque... Almost all known at that time Lviv sculptors participated in decorating the exterior and interiors of the theater. The design of the stage was done by an outstanding European artist, a native of the Kharkiv region, Henryk Semiradsky.  Monumental and at the same time exquisite in plastic decoration, the building became the dominant and iconic one on the central avenue of the city.  Reinforced concrete structures were widely used for the construction of the theater and the most modern (as of the end of XIX century) engineering solutions for acoustics were applied.

Today the theater employs more than 40 soloists, a ballet company (60 artists), a choir (60 artists), a symphony orchestra (90 musicians). The repertoire of the theater includes 22 operas, 3 operettas and about 20 ballets. All operas are sung in the original language (Italian, French, Polish). For the convenience of the audience a scoreboard with a moving line is placed above the stage, which translates the content of the performance into Ukrainian.

Львівський національний академічний театр опери та балету імені Соломії Крушельницької  розташований в історичному центрі міста на проспекті Свободи та названий на честь відомої української оперної співачки Соломії Крушельницької.

Будівництво театру розпочалось у червні 1897 року за проєктом архітектора ЗиґмунтаҐорґолевського — автора багатьох монументальних споруд Польщі й Німеччини.  В урочистому відкритті театру 4 жовтня 1900 року взяли участь письменник Генрик Сенкевич, композитор Ігнацій Ян Падеревський та делегації з різних європейських міст.

Театр став однією з найвизначніших споруд Львова, збудованих наприкінці періоду, який в історії архітектури характеризується як «історизм», або «еклектика». Стилістично споруда виконана у формах  неоренесансу та необароко. .. У декоруванні екстер’єру та інтер’єрів театру брали участь чи не всі відомі на той час львівські скульптори. Куртину сцени виконав видатний європейський художник, уродженець Харківщини, Генрик Семірадський.  Монументальна і , водночас, вишукана у пластичному оздобленні споруда стала домінуючою та знаковою на центральному проспекті міста.  При будівництві театру були широко  використані залізобетонні конструкції Застосовано найсучасніші станом на кін. ХІХ ст.  інженерні рішення у комунікаціях.

Сьогодні театрі працюють понад 40 солістів, балетна трупа (60 артистів), хор (60 артистів), симфонічний оркестр (90 музикантів). В репертуарі театру 22 опери, 3 оперети та близько 20 балетів. Всі опери йдуть мовою оригіналу (італійською, французькою, польською). Для зручності глядачів над сценою розміщене табло з рухомим рядком, що подає переклад змісту вистави українською мовою.
