Lviv. Church of St. Jehoshaphat, former Church of St. Francis

St. Josaphat Church is the current Greek Catholic Church in Lviv, at 134 Zamarstynivska Street. It is a former church of St. Francis of Assisi of the Capuchin monastery. The temple was built in 1925-1930. according to the project of Jan Sas-Zubzhytsky, a nobleman with Ukrainian roots, a native of Tovstoy on Ternopil. A practicing architect and art theorist, this specialist tried to create a national Polish style, looking at the architecture of Poland during the Gothic and Renaissance. In such forms, he designed a church on Zamarstyn for Capuchin monks.

In 1946, the Capuchins left Lviv for Poland, taking with them some of the items from the interior. After their departure, a film festival was arranged in the former church. At the turn of the 1980-1990s. the temple was again handed over to the faithful – the monastic Order of the Redemptorists of the UGCC (The Order of the Most Holy Izbavitel). On October 14, 1990, it was consecrated as St. Jehoshaphat.  The Church is the seat of the relics of Blessed UGCC Mykola Charnetsky, beatified by Pope John Paul II during his stay in Lviv in 2001.

Львів. Церква св. Йосафата – колишній костел св. Франциска

Церква святого Йосафата — чинна греко-католицька церква у Львові, на вулиці Замарстинівській, 134. Це - колишній костел святого Франциска з Ассізі монастиря капуцинів. Храм   споруджений у 1925-1930 рр. за проєктом Яна Сас-Зубжицького, шляхтича з українськими коренями, уродженця Товстого на Тернопіллі. Практикуючий архітектор та теоретик мистецтва цей фахівець намагався витворити національний польський стиль, взоруючись на архітектуру Польщі доби готики та ренесансу. У таких формах він запроектував і костел на Замарстинові для ченців-капуцинів.

1946 року капуцини виїхали зі Львова до Польщі, забравши з собою частину предметів з вистрою інтер’єру. Після їх від’їзду в колишньому костелі була влаштована кінотека. На межі 1980-1990-х рр. храм знову передали вірним – чернечому ордену редемптористів УГКЦ (Чину Найсвятішого Ізбавителя). 14 жовтня 1990 року його освятили як церкву св. Йосафата. Церква є місцем перебування мощей блаженного УГКЦ Миколая Чарнецького,  беатифікованого папою Іваном-Павлом ІІ під час його перебування у Львові у 2001 році.
